Purpose:  To stimulate participation of students, postdocs and young researchers, providing them the opportunity to be recognized for their scientific contribution to the field of antiviral research

Award:  Award amount will vary depending on the region of origin of the applicant.

Eligibility Requirements:  To qualify for consideration the applicant must: 

• Be no more than 5 years away from your highest degree.
• Be an ISAR member in good standing.
• Have an advisor who is also an ISAR member in good standing.
• Register for the annual ICAR meeting (registration fee is only waived for awardees from low / middle income countries).
• Must attend ICAR and be the presenting author.

Selection Criteria:  The awardees are selected based on:

• Scientific quality of the submitted abstract evaluated by at least three independent reviewers (abstracts are ranked according to the scores provided by the reviewers).
• The applicant has not received a similar travel grant award to attend an ICAR meetings in the last two years.
• Maximum two travel grants per laboratory research group with no overlapping research aims.

How to Apply: 

• Submit an abstract through the submission system by the deadline of November 20, 2026, 12:00 PM ET. Submissions during the second submission poster-only phase will not be considered.
• During the abstract submission process, answer "Yes" to the Travel Award question and provide the following items:
• A short (300 words or less) essay explaining the importance of receiving this award.
• Upload a short CV including publication records.
• Upload an endorsement/recommendation letter from advisor/mentor.

Notification/Distribution:  Applicants will be notified by email by December 21, 2026 of award status.  The travel award will be distributed at or after the meeting.

General Provisions:

• The decision on all applications is final (no feedback or comments will be provided).
• The Travel Award is specific to the successful applicant and may not be assigned to another person.
• Recipients of Travel Awards are required to attend in-person and actively participate during the entire conference.
